SkyPro organised an afternoon seminar on 27 January to discuss climate change and sustainable development.

Wide-ranging speakers

Minister of the Environment Paula Lehtomäki opened the seminar with a feedback from the COP-15 Copenhagen Climate Conference. The seminar was held at Oulu University.

Rector Lauri Lajunen from Oulu University explained how the strategy of the university takes the environment, natural resources, energy and sustainable development into consideration.

Meteorologist Leena Neitiniemi-Upola described the predictability of climate, the natural changes of climate and the effect of the location of Finland on the signs of climate change. Professor Kari Laine talked about adaptation to climate change and the possibility of decreasing the negative effects of climate change.

Environment counsellor Jaakko Ojala introduced the effects of the EU climate and energy package on the Finnish energy sector.

The SkyPro Oulu Program Director, Professor Riitta Keiski closed the seminar. She viewed the importance of sustainable development and technological expertise. The seminar was organised by SkyPro Oulu and Oulu Innovation.
